ews about WEEE and German ElectroG (German regulation concerning used electronic appliances) The German legislative procedure for implementing the European WEEE into German law began with the cabinet decision on September 1 st 2004. The second annex of the WEEE remains unchanged, meaning that ordinary recycling in big car shredders and the export thereof to China, carried out regularly in the past, will now come to an end. Various regulations and initiatives will now determine how electrical and electronic waste is to be recycled. For example, condensers containing PCB, circuit boards bigger than 10 cm², batteries, other harmful substances, plastics containing bromine, components containing Hg, LCDs bigger than 100 cm² will have to be extracted and individually physically present at the end of the process. Additionally the removal of the recycling particles will have to be verified explicitly and the adherence to a quota will have to be demonstrated.
